An Unforgettable Afternoon With My Daughter And The Anne of Green Gables DVD.

As a parent, I live for teaching or bonding moments. However, when I can do both at the same time, it is like hitting a home run and listening to the crowd go nuts as you touch all the bases. Well, I just had one of those moments, and the echoes of the fans are still reverberating through my heart.

Anne of Green Gables is a book I had to read in school, however, unlike most of the other books, I loved it. I had never thought of sharing this experience with my teenage daughter until recently when I saw the Anne of Green Gables DVD box set.

I have to admit that when I first purchased it, I was only thinking of myself. I had not thought of Anne (the 11-year old girl who is the main character) for what seemed like an eternity. And, when I saw Anne overcoming the same struggles that helped me identify with her decades ago, I once again felt a connection. However, I did not connect with her through the eyes of a child like I did the first time I read the book. This time was much different because I saw Anne as a father sees his daughter. So, it was only natural that I dragged my teen girl next to me on the couch to watch it with her old man.

Anne of Green Gables DVD

To Kill a Mockingbird was the first movie of a story set in the early twentieth century told through the eyes of a young lady that I forced my daughter to watch with me. It was a golden experience then and watching Anne of Green Gables was a golden experience now.

If you have a daughter or granddaughter in your life, I recommend you watch To Kill a Mockingbird and Anne of Green Gables. What you talk about and what you bond over is only limited to your childhood memories.
